Traffic during the Coronation celebrations

All vehicles (including media/ journalists duty vehicles) on tourists duty from 2 - 8 November 2008 in Thimphu should register with ABTO office. ABTO will be issuing an identification stickers based on tourists travel itinerary (route permit). All tour operators are requested to submit a copy of route permit in order for us to process the identification stickers. All are requested to start registering with ABTO office from 23 October 2008, the last date for registration should be done by 12.00 PM (noon) of 31 October 2008.

On 6 November, 2008, registered (with sticker) tourist vehicles will be allowed to drop and pick up tourists in the ground above Tendrel Thang for the celebrations in the Dzong.

On 7 and 8 November, 2008, registered (with sticker) tourist vehicles should use the BDFC parking area to drop and pick up tourist. The vehicles shall not be allowed to remain parked there.

  • 2 - 8 November, 2008: Norzin lam and Changlam will remain closed.
  • 6 November, 2008: Doebum Lam (Swimming Pool road) will be closed for all other traffic except shuttle buses.
  • 6, 7, 8 November, 2008: Chogyal lam (route from Dechen Zam to Lungten Zampa via Sabji market) will be restricted for all other vehicles as it will be reserved for VVIP/VIP vehicles only.
